Just because someone people on this site don’t read books obviously doesn’t mean that a book store isn’t needed in Stillwater. Consider the fact that Stillwater lacks a traditional bookstore, which you would think of as a necessity in a COLLEGE TOWN. So the question is, are we a real college town? If so, we should be able to support a traditional bookstore and not just textbook stores and a Hastings.

I would also SERIOUSLY encourage the developers to look into making this separate from a big chain. Do we really need a Border’s or a Barnes and Noble in Stillwater to be happy? It could be a much cooler store, and have a greater chance of success if were a locally-owned and operated bookstore similar to Full Circle in OKC or Book People in Austin.

Can c-star find someone within the Stillwater community, an OSU graduate or student or whatever, and help support a project that will in the long run be a bigger success than just bringing in another damn chain to Stillwater? Let’s keep Stillwater unique, continue to support local businesses, prefer local businesses, and keep the damn chains out of Stillwater!!! (unless it’s a Target or Whole Foods, which btw..Whole Foods isn’t coming to Stillwater)

A Barnes and Noble would provide reading resources for the west-side of town while also increasing the availability of possible author visits, special events, and educational programs for the community, the schools, and the university.

A book store would also work great. There are other businesses that work but it would be nice to have a bookstore with out clothes, video’s, etc. Leave it to strictly books, textbooks, electronic books, and a nice simple deli, coffee shop.

I really love Half-Price books but do wonder if Stillwater needs another book store. I’ve been pretty impressed with Hastings.

Another bookstore would help alleviate the crowding inside and outside of Hastings. . .

    I agree Hastings is enough

With the new Kindle and other electronic reading media devices, bookstores might be a thing of the past…OK, not a thing of the past, but they will DEFINITELY start to see big declines in the sale of paper books (isn’t that kinda sad?) :(

A Half-Price Bookstore! Texas has several of them and I love stopping at one every time I go through there.

MARDELL’S!!! We have ZERO places to get Christian books, studies, etc. Plus, they have tons of cute gifts and things like that. Mardell’s would be great.

Barnes and Noble would be my second choice.

I would love to see a Barnes and Noble or a Books-A-Million come into Stillwater!

Mardells or a Christian Book Store of that type, Barnes and Noble

I think that a locally owned bookstore with a great philosophy of personal service and books beyond the obvious would be a real magnet for people who love to read or buy books for gifts. With an educational component, it could become a relevant part of the community. (Educational games, toys, and events and workshops) – an alternative to the impersonal presentation that chain stores typically have. A coffee bar would be a typical addition that people see as a reason to spend time beyond the shopping experience.

That’s funny. Such a store would be a great addition to the community and patronized well by the students. Two problems though, students don’t have any money and a locally run bookstore couldn’t afford the rents they’re going to want to bring in.

We’re going to get a mega chain store and you’ll have to like it!

  14. SD says:

Mardell’s would offer a wide variety of educational, school and Christian supplies. Stillwater desperately needs a business equal to the high standard of Mardell’s.

  15. Derek says:

Hastings is enough. We need a BEST BUY and WHOLE FOODS

  16. NK says:

I would like a Barnes & Noble or a Borders, but I think Hastings is plenty for this size of city, plus they draw customers in with their movie rentals and other electronic products.

  17. MC says:

Hastings has about everything you need…

  18. DS says:

A Barnes and Noble would be a good choice.

  19. Charley says:

Hastings is just fine for me!
